Ukrainian trace
After the 2014 revolution in Ukraine, the occupation of Crimea and the beginning of hostilities in the South-East of Ukraine, a new group of politically motivated criminal cases has emerged, in which the motive related to the policy of the Russian authorities towards and in connection with Ukraine is clearly traceable.
Such prosecutions are directed both against Ukrainian citizens, being motivated by the desire of the authorities to confirm the theses of the aggressive official anti-Ukrainian propaganda, or, in the case of Crimea, by the desire to suppress even potential resistance to the occupation, and against Russian citizens who publicly oppose the aggressive policy of the Russian leadership towards Ukraine.
At the same time, nothing is known about the cases and even the background of the charges against many Ukrainian citizens detained while awaiting trial in the Russian Federation, which determines the deliberate incompleteness of our coverage of this category of cases.
